Digest Stream: What SaaS Apps are You Using
May 2, 2023
☁️ Software as a Service (SaaS) applications have become the prevalent form of software in use today, with popular examples including Slack, Gmail, and Zoom. Modern companies often rely on hundreds of SaaS applications for their daily operations.
🕵️ With the rapid proliferation of SaaS applications, organizations are challenged to manage the multitude of applications utilized by their employees. This is crucial, as SaaS applications often access sensitive or regulated data, and companies are held accountable for the security of that data to varying degrees.
A recent study of 550 companies revealed the following insights:
👉 84% of companies use SaaS applications that have experienced a breach within the past three months. Although a breach of a SaaS application does not necessarily imply the compromise of customer data, it warrants a thorough investigation to ensure that your company's data remains secure.
👉 76% of SaaS applications with access to company data were inactive. This alarming statistic emphasizes the importance of disconnecting unused SaaS applications from company data to reduce potential vulnerabilities.
👉 20% of SaaS application users were not company employees but typically contractors. This highlights the need to review and revoke access for individuals who no longer require it.
SaaS applications offer numerous benefits, and their popularity continues to grow. However, it is crucial to remember that they often serve as access points to your organization's data. Remain vigilant in monitoring the SaaS applications you utilize, the data they access, and who has access to them.
